Using a Tyre Repair Kit
Our guide to using a puncture repair kit
Most of modern day cars are now being sold without a spare wheel in the boot, as they are equipped with puncture repair kits instead.
Overall, it is very simple kit to use and it will take you less time than fitting a spare wheel on the car.
This kit is featured mainly on modern cars, which also come with tyre pressure monitoring systems (pms) as standard. If a warning light or message flashes on your dashboard, just pull over to a safe place as soon as you can. If your vehicle doesn’t have the PMS, then tell-tale signs are vibrations and shaking of the steering wheel.
Once pulled over, trace the puncture and inspect the tyre for overheating, as it is a single most common reason for tyre blow-outs. Once you are happy that your puncture/damage is less than 4mm radius, then the real work begins:
- Connect your mini compressor to the valve neck.
- Attach the bottle of sealant to the compressor, which is normally a screw- on type.
- Connect your compressor to a 12V socket.
- Leave it running for 10 – 15 minutes.
- Once the tyre is inflated, disconnect the kit and put the dust cap back on the valve.
- Go to your nearest Tyreland depot to get the repair checked.
** Make sure not to remove the screw from the tyre as it seals the hole.
