Tyre Review: Michelin Primacy 4

Primacy 4: Safe when new, safe when worn!

It took three years to develop it, but Michelin Primacy 4 is now widely available in most of the touring sizes. The main improvement, when compared to its predecessor, is that Primacy 4 offers excellent grip on wet roads, from the first use until worn to the legal wear pointer (1.6mm). It does not decrease in grip as the tread wears down. It is down to new, improved tyre pattern designed, to allow more space for water clearance (22% more than the previous model).

That is why Michelin launched the Primacy 4 with a slogan “safe when new, safe when worn” as it maintains level performance during its lifetime. It is part of the Michelin brand strategy, to keep the drivers safe throughout the lifetime of the tyre until it is down to the legal limit indicator.

(other competing tyre brands recommend replacing tyres at 3mm due to reduced performance).

18,000km more than competitor tyres

According to Michelin, on average, Primacy 4 tyre lasts on average 18,000km than other competing brands in the same class. (18,000km = 69.5 journeys from Dublin to Cork via M7/M8 motorway). The durability test proved Michelin to be a longest-lasting performer yet again.

Best In Class For Braking

According to the independent testing carried out in Germany, Michelin Primacy 4 has the shortest braking distances in its class. It was braking on average 0.9m shorter than competitor tyres. The difference increase when the same but worn tyres were tested. Primacy 4 stopping distance on avg. was 2.8m shorter the other premium brands.

This test was carried on Michelin’s request, by TÜV SÜV, an independent tyre testing body. Michelin Primacy 4 tested against Continental Premium Contact5, Dunlop Sport Bluresponse, Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance and Pirelli Cinturato P7 Blue tyres. All tyres were fitted onto a mark 7 VW Golf in size 205 55 r16.

Innovative features

The new Michelin Primacy 4 comes with built-in tread wear indicators. These small rubber blocks in the tread groove will help you to identify when your tyres need replacing. Fleet managers across Europe are praising this feature.
